The Adventures of the Z-Team is a comic strip of mine that I drew in 1987-89, while I was in my first few years at the University of Tennessee... it was considered for publication in the university paper The Daily Beacon, but was eventually beaten out by a strip called Stoner's Aquarium, drawn by Ron Ruelle, who later did the syndicated At The Zü. The Team eventually saw publication in a few fan magazines, as well as a limited run small-press comic from Chapter 11 Publications.
All of the characters are based on people I know, mainly the real Z-Team (as we called ourselves) from Bearden High School in Knoxville, Tennessee. A few others came from other friends I met in college, as well as Heather, my best friend and one true love. Click here to meet the different characters of the strip.
And as all things do, the look of the characters evolved over time, especially as I got more comfortable with them and the style of the strip... I really prefer the current look to what I started with... While I'd considered redrawing the originals, I decided to leave them alone... I'm no George Lucas, and The Z-Team: Special Edition seemed a little ludicrous... :)
This is it... all that I did... I've been thinking about maybe starting it back up again... any interest? Email me and let me know... the Z-Team may return....
